Frying Varieties

Desiree – Originally a Dutch variety with oval-long tubers, light red skin and light yellow flesh.  The “eyes” are slightly sunken.  The variety grows mainly in the spring, but it has good storage capabilities, thus it is marketed almost year-round.  This variety has versatile uses: it is great for frying, very good for cooking in its skin, various stews and soups, and is also good for baking.  The tubers taste very good.  In the past, the Desiree’s red skin deterred the consumers, but today it is a well-known and desirable variety.שקית טיגון קטן

Menito – A variety originally from Holland.  Its tubers are relatively large, oval to elongated.  The skin is smooth and red and the flesh is light yellow.  The Menito variety offers an outstanding flavor and hardly crumbles during cooking.  Suitable for frying, providing crispy and tasty French fries.

Mozart – The Mozart is a Dutch variety, grown in Israel for the local market in recent years.  Its tubers are oval and eyes shallow.  The skin is red and flesh is yellow.  The tubers slightly crumble during cooking, thus they are unsuitable for salads, but they are suitable for domestic frying and baking.

Rodeo – Like many of the potato varieties grown in Israel, the Rodeo originated in Holland.  The tubers are oval to elongated, slightly flat, and they are of relatively regular and consistent shape.  The skin is light red and the flesh is yellowish.  The variety is grown during the two growing seasons and is intended only for the local market.  The tubers have a slight tendency to crumble during cooking and they are considered suitable for frying and baking.

Rosanna – The Rosanna variety originated in France and was rapidly adopted by the growers and market.  The tubers are oval to elongated, slightly flat and they are regular and consistent in shape.  The skin is red and flesh is light yellow.  Like the vast majority of the red-skinned varieties, the Rosanna is grown during the two growth seasons and intended for the local market only.  The tubers have a slight crumbling tendency during cooking and they are suitable for domestic frying and baking.
